Bitcoin Mining: Separating Fact from Fiction

In this clip from the Bitcoin Policy Summit, Avid Roy, Troy Cross, Kerri Langlais, Margot Paez, and Chris Barnard speak about how Bitcoin mining is largely understood and how they’re working to educate others on the benefits of Bitcoin mining.

Avik Roy is President of the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity, a non-profit, non-partisan think tank focused on expanding economic opportunity to those who least have it. He was educated at MIT and the Yale School of Medicine.

Troy Cross is a Professor of Philosophy and Humanities at Reed College where he teaches courses on the philosophy of religion, color, and the philosophy of mind, as well as lecturing in the humanities program. Prior to coming to Reed in 2010, he held positions at Yale and Merton College, Oxford. Cross has been involved in bitcoin for over a decade, cultivating interest in a number of Bitcoin-related issues in that time, most of all, the question of bitcoin mining’s present and future environmental impact.

Kerri Langlais is the Chief Strategy Officer for TeraWulf Inc. Ms. Langlais spent nearly a decade in the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs, where she was most recently in the Natural Resources advisory group in New York. Ms. Langlais received her BA in Finance and graduated with honors from Boston College

Margot Paez is a Ph.D. candidate in the civil engineering department at Georgia Institute of Technology. She has an MS in physics from GT and works on climate change statistical-based modeling, primarily in relation to water resources. Her previous research includes robotics and physics of living systems, astrobiology instrumentation, and web-based data management systems.

Chris Barnard is the VP of External Affairs at the American Conservation Coalition, the nation’s largest center-right environmental organization. He holds a bachelor’s degree in politics from the University of Kent and a master’s in international relations from the London School of Economics. He frequently writes for outlets such as The Hill, USA Today, the Daily Telegraph, the Washington Examiner, and more.
